Shipyard and Dock Gate Projects

ASL SHIPYARD
INTERMEDIATE GATE FOR BATAM DOCK
Batam, Indonesia – 2015 – Present
TCL Maritime has been commissioned by PT ASL Shipyard to design an intermediate gate for the existing 300,000dwt dry dock. The Intermediate gate allows the 340m long dry dock to be divided into a 250m long seaward section for general ship repairs and a 90m long landward section for rigs, that need to stay in the dock much longer than general ship repairs. The Intermediate gate allows docking and undocking of vessels without causing any disruption to the rig behind the gate. TCL were responsible for the design of the steel structure and civil works which included forming a cut off below the dock and modifying the existing under-floor drainage system.

EXTENSION AND WIDENING DOCK 2
Malaysia – 2015 - Present
TCL Maritime has been appointed to study 3 options for extending and widening the existing 270m long x 46m wide dry dock. The study has focused on minimizing down-time and one option has considered using the existing dock gate as a temporary cofferdam and replacing the existing flap gate with a floating caisson.

KARNAFULY DRY DOCK LTD

Chittagong, Bangladesh 2014 – Present
TCL Maritime has been appointed to act as an Independent Advisor to the Client and to the World Bank for a proposed 100,000 dwt dry dock in Chittagong. Our role included assisting the client to appoint a consultant/ designer, reviewing the proposed designs and offering alternative designs where necessary.

JURONG SHIPYARD
RESTEPPING GATE AT DRY DOCK 3
Singapore, 2014 - 2015
TCL Maritime was appointed to provide consultancy services to JSPL for the un-stepping and re-stepping of the existing gate at Dry Dock 3, Tanjung Kling Yard. TCL checked the floatation characteristics of the 19-year old gate and developed revised un-stepping and re-stepping instructions that allowed the gate to be removed and installed without any personnel on the gate, thus greatly improving the safety of the operation. Due to the extensive planning and on-site supervision of the operation, the gate was un-stepped, repaired and re-stepped within the planned 6 weeks.

REPLACEMENT GATE FOR DOCK 1
Malaysia – 2013-2014
Our staff designed a new replacement gate for the 80m wide 400,000dwt No. 1 Dry Dock at MMHE Pasir Gudang Yard. The replacement gate was designed to utilize the existing hinges and existing winches and was more complex than the original gate, as it was designed to be more easily installed and removed, without the need for a floating crane. The 1265t gate was installed into the existing hinges to within 2mm of its correct position and can operate throughout the full tidal range.

UNSTEPPING EXISTING 36 YEAR OLD GATE
Malaysia – 2010-2014
Our staff carried out a detailed inspection and supervised a diver’s survey on the original 36 year old Dock Gate No.1 at MMHE Pasir Gudang Yard. The inspection and assessment confirmed that the existing hinge pins could be reused for the replacement gate, thus avoiding the need to build a cofferdam around the entrance. Additional external buoyancy tanks were fitted to the lower dock face to assist the flotation of the 80m wide gate during removal.

  • Ras Laffan, Qatar – Design of Intermediate Gates for an 80.5 m and a 60.5 m wide dry docks at Nakilat Dockyard.
  • Sri Lanka – Review and design check for a proposed Intermediate Gate at Dry dock no.1 of Colombo Shipyard.
  • Labuan , Malaysia – Assessment of existing marine facilities and technical advise on re-development of Labuan Shipyard.
  • Batam, Indonesia – Design of entrance work, 2 nos. Flap Gates, a shared pump room and 2 nos. inlet chambers for S9 and S12 Dry Dock at ASL Shipyard.
  • Batam, Indonesia – Upgrading and extension of Batam Dock for ASL Shipyard.
  • Singapore – Conceptual design for two slipways and the extension of existing quay walls of Keppel Singmarine Benoi Yard.
  • Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia – Design of extension works to Quay 2 and 3 for Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering (MSE) yard.
  • Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia – Project management and technical support for extensive concrete repair to the pump house, inlet chamber and sump room for dry docks at Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering Yard (MSE).
  • Mokpo, South Korea – Detailed design of 100m and 70m wide Floating Caisson Gates for dry docks at Samho Yard for Halla Heavy Engineering.
  • Singapore – Detailed design of ‘Tilt Beams’ for ship launching at Sembawang Shipyard.
